Orange TV box: the new model, Wi-Fi and the fees

Orange set-top box in Belgium: the TV Box launched in July 2026, Wi-Fi without a coaxial cable, a five-step setup and every fee, checked and dated.

ByVincent H.8 min read

Since summer 2026, Orange has been installing a set-top box that fits in the palm of your hand and does without a coaxial cable. Existing customers can get it for €49. The older model still works, but it cannot pick up live channels over Wi-Fi alone. Here is which one you have, how to connect it and what each option adds to the bill.

Which Orange box do you get today?

A new customer gets the 2026 TV Box. A longer-standing customer has a box fed by the cable network.

Orange unveiled its new TV Box on 1 July 2026. According to its press release, it has been installed for new customers since late June, and existing customers have been able to request it since 1 September. The box, integrated by Vantiva, runs Android TV 14, Google's system, with 4 GB of RAM.

I have not had this box in my hands. The figures below come from Orange and from the press, not from a trial.

On volume, the daily L'Avenir did the sum on 2 July 2026: 113 cm³ for the Orange box, against 473 cm³ for the Proximus Android Wi-Fi TV Box and 3,349 cm³ for the .évasion box of VOO, the Walloon cable operator. Thirty times smaller than VOO's, then. It changes nothing on screen, but it changes where you can put it.

On electricity, the gap is thin. A 7 W box left on all year uses 61 kWh, a 5 W box uses 44. Nobody swaps a box for 17 kWh.

And if you took Orange TV Lite, you have no box at all. The 20 channels run through the app, on a phone, a tablet or a compatible connected television.

Does the Orange box work over Wi-Fi?

The new one does. The old one, halfway.

Orange writes that the 2026 TV Box delivers all television over the internet, by Ethernet or Wi-Fi 6. No more coaxial cable to run to the TV unit: a power socket and a decent Wi-Fi signal are enough.

The older box follows a different logic. Live channels reach it through the coaxial cable, the one from the cable TV wall socket. Internet, over Wi-Fi or a network cable, only brings it the illustrated guide, catch-up and recordings. On Orange's community forum, subscribers who had removed the coaxial cable in April 2025 found out for themselves: no live programme at all, while recordings still played.

I fitted this kind of box for seven years around Namur, for three operators. The request came back every week: put the television on the opposite wall, where there is no socket. With a cable box, the honest answer was a coaxial extension along the skirting board, never a Wi-Fi repeater.

Connecting the Orange box: five steps

Ten minutes if the socket is in the right place.

  1. The signal. On a cable-fed box, screw the coaxial cable between the wall socket and the RF IN input. On the 2026 TV Box, skip this step.
  2. The network. Ethernet cable to the modem if the distance allows, otherwise Wi-Fi.
  3. The picture. HDMI cable to the television. For an old set with no HDMI, the three RCA sockets on the cable box do the job.
  4. The power. Plug in the power supply last. The light turns green when the box is on, red on standby.
  5. The source. With the television's own remote, select the HDMI input you plugged the cable into.

No signal? Orange sets out the routine in its online help: check the coaxial cable, unplug the box for one minute, then rerun the channel search under Menu, Settings, Technical. A green hand on every channel points to a problem with the activation of your TV rights, and in that case you call 5000, Orange's customer service number.

On the older Orange box, the coaxial cable remains essential for live channels.

Why does a 4K-compatible box show no 4K?

Because Orange broadcasts no channel in 4K.

The operator says so on its compatibility page, consulted on 3 October 2026: the box is compatible with 4K screens, but no broadcast is offered in that resolution. Channels arrive in high definition, and the television upscales the picture. The 4K mentioned on the sales page concerns apps: Netflix or Disney+ launched from the box, provided you have the plan that includes it.

The same page gives two useful details. The box has no SCART socket. And the output signal is protected, so no external recorder can copy a programme.

How much do the installer, the swap and the second box cost?

From €0 to €200, depending on the line. Here is the grid checked on 3 October 2026 on Orange's help pages.

ItemAmountGood to know
Bundle activation€39Once, at installation
Evening (6 pm to 8 pm) or weekend surcharge€30Added to the call-out
Missed appointment€39Without cancelling 24 hours ahead
Extra box€9/monthThree at most, same generation as the main one
Fitting of the extra box€0 or €59Free if you do it, €59 with an installer
Move to the 2026 TV Box€49Existing customer, self-installation
HDMI cable over one metre€15Sold by Orange
WiFi booster€40Each
Unreturned box€200Bundle modem €60, fibre modem €120

A second television fitted by the installer therefore comes to €599 over five years: sixty monthly payments of €9, plus €59 for fitting. Plug it in yourself, the routine is the one described above.

The box only makes sense with a bundle. Livebox Up with Orange TV, box included, is listed at €82 a month with no promotion, checked on 3 October 2026. Livebox Giga with Orange TV Plus is advertised at €92 a month, then €104 after twelve months, checked the same day. The second amount is the one that counts: €144 more over the second year.

The mistakes that cost money

  • Ordering an extra box without checking the generation. Orange requires the same one as the main box. Moving to the 2026 TV Box in the living room may therefore mean revisiting the box in the bedroom.
  • Removing the coaxial cable from an older box on the assumption that Wi-Fi takes over. Live channels disappear.
  • Buying a 4K television for the channels. They stay in high definition.
  • Forgetting to cancel an appointment. €39 for a closed door.
  • Throwing away the drop-off receipt after sending the equipment back. Without it, the €200 is hard to dispute.

A disagreement over an equipment charge is settled first with the operator, in writing. If it drags on, the Service de médiation pour les télécommunications, the Belgian telecoms ombudsman, handles the case free of charge, and the BIPT (IBPT in French), the federal telecoms regulator, sets out your rights.

Should you pay €49 for the 2026 TV Box?

Only if the coaxial cable is in your way.

Orange states on its forum that both generations give access to the same main features: live TV, pause, guide, recordings, apps. So the €49 buys neither extra channels nor a better picture. It buys the freedom to put the television wherever you like, and a faster box according to the operator, which I cannot confirm without having used it.

At Proximus, the same question comes with the same €49: the detail is in Proximus TV box, which model and how to connect it. If you are leaving Orange, returning the equipment is explained in cancelling Proximus, VOO or Orange without fees. To choose the bundle that goes around the box, use the TV subscription ranking or the comparison tool.

Frequently asked questions

The TV Box unveiled on 1 July 2026: 7.5 x 6.3 x 2.4 cm, Android TV 14, 4 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi 6 or Ethernet. Orange has been installing it for new customers since late June 2026. The Orange TV Lite plan includes no box at all: its 20 channels run through the app.

The 2026 TV Box does: all television reaches it over the internet, by Wi-Fi 6 or Ethernet. The older box does not: without the coaxial cable it no longer shows live channels. Wi-Fi is only enough for its guide, catch-up and recordings.

€49, once, with self-installation, since 1 September 2026. It is included for a new customer. Nothing forces you to switch: the older box keeps working and Orange says both generations give access to the same main features.

€9 a month per box, with a maximum of three on top of the main one, checked on 3 October 2026. Fitting is free if you plug it in yourself, €59 with an installer. The extra box must be of the same generation as the main one.

Yes for the cable-fed box: it has an analogue output with three RCA sockets, yellow, white and red, alongside HDMI. It has no SCART socket. A television with SCART only therefore needs an RCA-to-SCART adapter.

Orange bills €200 for a TV box that is not returned or that you damaged, €60 for a bundle modem and €120 for a fibre modem, amounts checked on 3 October 2026. Keep the parcel drop-off receipt until the closing invoice.
